The ATi Radeon HD 2600xt graphics card has taken quite some stick from the hardware sites when being reviewed by them. What is quite shocking is that there has been no 'true midrange' graphics card released by either nVidia or ATi. There has been no card that packs the punch that, for example, the GeForce 6600GT did in its day. A card that came in at around the £100/$200 price point and gave gamers great performance for their cash.

Tech Power Up! are reporting some interesting rumours for the specifications for nVidia's next graphics card -- the G92, or what would be more commonly known as the Geforce 9800GTX.

Shock, horror, an update!

DailyTech, have revealed performance figures for the new ATi graphics card, the HD 2900 XT. It seems ATi like to delay their cards as much as I do my updates. Either that, or they have decided releasing their cards in between nVidia's to better business practice. This avoids a direct confrontation between two new cards, and gives each company a spell with the top card for enthusiasts.

ASUS have unveiled a solution which allows Laptops to attach an external graphics card, to improve gaming performance. We all know that, unless you opt for a pricey 'gaming laptop', graphics performance has been the bane of notebooks.

I can not believe I missed the announcement of nVidia's G80 specifications -- that is the new Geforce 8800 series. Ok, so DailyTech have reported 3 articles on the GeForce 8800GTX and 8800GTS. So I will attempt to post them all in one news article and add some comment. The only bad news is we do not have any leaked benchmarks for the G80; hopefully, they will come soon enough.

Ati have again leaked some Radeon X1950XT, X1950XTX, and X1950 Crossfire benchmarks. These benchmarks show a more skewed, read 'optimised' towards ATi, results than the Radeon X1950 Crossfire benchmarks leaked by an Ati vendor.

ATi have released their latest driver, less than a month after Catalyst 6.7. So it seems ATi's driver team have not been disturbed much during AMD's takover. On the surface this looks like a nice update with numerous improvements in performance, especially in OpenGL -- where nVidia's cards still rule supreme. It's nice too see ATi's drivers are improving and, perhaps, the common belief that their drivers and support are inferior to nVidias may now be invalid; after all, when was the last nVidia driver out?

Note: On a side note, this update coincides with Tech Rant's sexy new title image :D

I must have been under a rock when this news appeared at The Inquirer, or maybe I passed it up as one of their more suspect stories... So thanks to APH Networks covering this rumour, other wise I might have missed it.

An ATI Vendor has leaked some Radeon X1950XTX benchmarks, which are painting a rather nice picture for ATi's latest graphics card: the Radeon X1950. When two cards are coupled in CrossFire they, according to the benchmarks, are superior overall to a pair of GeForce 7950GX2 cards -- aka a Quad SLI system.

It's a shame the benchmarks were in CrossFire and SLI, as neither system shows consistent gains. Especially Quad SLI which has been shown to be detrimental to performance in some games. Both systems are processor limited too, so it really does not show us the true power of the card in question.

DailyTech is currently reporting Major Radeon X1900 Price Drops. It's nice to see the Crossfire cards dropping in price, so people can actually use the technology without breaking the bank. The 1900XTX model has also been cut in price down to the old price point of the ATI X1900XT.

There has not been any reliable information on whether nVidia will follow suit. Although, they only really have two choices -- meet the current cut, or wait until G80 then drop prices.

Note: 21st August -- Fixed some typos. Oh, and my bro picked up an X1900 after these drops, I think it was the X1900XT... lucky him! :(
