Sorry for the inactivity around here, I am committed to a challenge on my other site 406 Not Acceptable to post a new article every day this month. Now, as you can guess the busiest month in Tech Rant's history only has 13 updates (or is it 18?) So, this is taking up more of my time than I thought it would have. Silly me, I really should have thought it out more; perhaps only doing the challenge for a week.

All downloads may go down for around an hour following this post. This will be due to remapping of the downloads database (or, in case your name is John Barden: Dartabase.) I have made the decision to place the downloads on a sub-domain, which will have bandwidth throttling rules. As it stands the whole site is subject to a very lenient rule-set for throttling at around 100GB.

Note: Downloads are back as of 15:10 today.

I've handily made use of my 'masses of bandwidth' by uploading eeeXubuntu versions 1 and 3 to the site. I've also uploaded xp3esd, which you may find handy for installing Windows XP on any removable drive.

Sorry, I've had too much on my plate to update the site this month. With University, real life, modding, work, etc. I doubt this will change next month either...

No this site is not dead! This is my attempt to make sure Tech Rant never sees another month with no updates!

The number of articles have dried up for a number of reasons -- the main one being that I have returned to university for more punishment.

I am currently stuck in limbo between accomodation. Thanks to problems with the my new accomodation, I might not move in till next week. The place I am currently residing does not have internet access, so I can't update the site even if I wanted to.

Lots of internal work has been done today, perhaps it might just be enough to stick with Postnuke. With a release candidate of 0.9 on the horizon things are looking up again for this CMS.

I would just like to point out that this site is not dead. Currently I am considering moving from PostNuke to a different Content Management System (CMS), for a number of reasons. Currently sitting at the top of the possible switches are Joomla and Wordpress. I find PostNuke to have inadiquate support in comparison to these alternate CMS.

As the site gathers closer to 50k hits -- lovin' the plug? -- a thought entered my head (heavens forbid!) This site is called 'Tech Rant' but there is a lack of ranting. Heck, more people come here for fairuse4wm than anything else. So over the coming months, I will try to add a couple of rants in here and there, if I get the time!

Oh and update the damn poll!

Sorry for the lack of updates this month. Again the real world has been rather eventful, giving me little time for this site. Most recently my computer has not been well... it really is time for me to consider that elusive X2 3800.

On a more positive side the site has surpassed 20k hits, so its nearly at that big 25k benchmark. Maybe I'll upload more files to the file centre.

At least one company out there does things right. My host Dreamhost just doubled by bandwidth to 2TB -- not that I ever got anywhere near 1TB... mmm... maybe it is a signal I should host more files?

I know you might hate me for not updating these past few weeks, but I have been having too much fun -- a week off work and freshers week at the same time!

Anyway, back to google, which, for today, I hate google. Why? First, this site has dropped from first to third for the keywords tech rant. Now, this might not have pissed me off if the two sites which now rank above me were even anything relevent to the terms, or for heavens sake -- ALIVE.

Just reporting that I have installed a Games Module into the site, so you can now enjoy: Space Invaders, Cone Crazy 2, Jewels, Joust, Flashteroids, Fruit Smash V2, Drifting Championships, Pacman, Snake and Tetris. Your high scores will be remembered by most of these games if you are a registered user.

Yes it is time for another -- although for once rather eventful -- site update. Numerous changes/happenings have occurred over the past week, so I thought it would be best to report them all at once. First, I have, finally, got round to doing some polls -- look on the right -- which should work for everyone, that includes unregistered users.

I have a couple of things to report today, first our affiliate Pro Clockers has reported the official launch of the Cooler Master Case Mod Contest 2006, and the new OCZ SD “Dual” Memory Cards, which essentially are a Secure Digital and USB Drive in One.

In other affiliated news, APH Networks have reviewed the Seasonic Powerangel, which is a handy device for checking how much electricity is used by virtually any device that is plug into your wall outlet. Techdomain, have covered multiple reviews of the ATi X1950 graphics card, which seems to be the hot topic on most hardware review sites at the moment.

I have some more small updates to report. First, thanks to our new affiliates APH Networks, and Pro Clockers. Second, as you may hav noticed, the fugly title image has been updated to our new sleek Tech-Rant logo -- with a nice Conroe chip; although, I do not have one I sure would like one... Third, the downloads section has been updated with a few new downloads.

I am sorry about the recent lack of ranting, or updates if you like. A whole week in between updates is not satisfactory in my book, so I hope to improve the situation. I am going to try and write more articles in advance, to help the site stay updated. In addition, please remember that if you register you can write your own rants and if they are of a high enough standard I will publish them here, and link back to your site if you have one.

Anyhow, I have added a few more catagories to the weblinks section -- you can add your own link if it is relevent. I am still looking at any modules to help sort out the archived news too, so site development still continues.

Note: So far, I have added two new articles, a rant on the ATi drivers and a purchasing guide for computers at discount prices. Expect to see both appear later this week -- with no delays as they have already been written! The joys of Postnuke's programmed articles feature!

Again just an update on the site itself; I'll be ranting some more soon folks. I've to add a small rant on the search engines here too, as my experiences have not been satisfactory.

Tech Rant now has four new affiliates; Tech Domain, PC Flame, PC Bucket, and Extreme Systems UK. Hopefully, I will post any of their articles which are relevant to this site's content and they will do the same in return. I will be changing the text links into images in the near future; as part of my continuous efforts to improve the aesthetics of Tech Rant.

Numerous site updates have been implemented here at tech-rant today. First, the javascript loading bar has been removed; because I HATE javascript. Users of Firefox should consider using NoScript to set which sites they wish to block javascript from. As obviously, you need it for some sites, e.g on-line banking, etc.

Secondly, I have updated some of the descriptions of the downloads -- thanks for the tip Myhringoc! Live links have been added to the support forum, and to the latest patch from the core install.

I am currently using this site to mirror some Diablo II, or Diablo 2, for those who hate roman numerals, mods. I helped the creation of these mods, or made them myself :)

So for the benefit of those who hate fileplanet, you know have another download location. Here is a link to a site with some more information on the mod.
