Major Radeon X1900 Price Drops, well kinda...

Graphics Cards

DailyTech is currently reporting Major Radeon X1900 Price Drops. It's nice to see the Crossfire cards dropping in price, so people can actually use the technology without breaking the bank. The 1900XTX model has also been cut in price down to the old price point of the ATI X1900XT.

There has not been any reliable information on whether nVidia will follow suit. Although, they only really have two choices -- meet the current cut, or wait until G80 then drop prices.

Here is a list of the x1900 series price drops, including the Sapphire x1900GT card (which is cheaper).

  • ATI Radeon X1900 512MB CrossFire: $375, down from $500
  • ATI Radeon X1900XTX 512MB: $370, from $500
  • ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB: $310, from $370
  • ATI Radeon X1900GT 256MB: $280, from $310
  • Sapphire Radeon X1900GT 256MB: $230, from $250
The drops for the XTX and Crossfire models are major, and the rest are rather lame. $30, or £15, from a $300, £160, product isn't something to be ecstatic about. So, apart from the top cards being reduced, and soon to be replaced by the Radeon X1950 range, this price drop did not impress me.

When the XT, 1900XT, only subject to a small price drop this series of price drops seems disappointing. As this card is the best one for "performance per buck" as it easily overclocks to XTX, that is 1900XTX, speeds.
