A program known as BackupHDDVD claims to be able to crack the so called 'uncrackable' AACS encryption used by high definition media.

BackupHDDVD is able to decrypt a AACS protected movie that you own, thus allowing you to play it back later using
an HD-DVD player software.

BackupHDDVD does not provide users with the cryptographic keys needed to decrypt their own protected movies, thus users need to be able to find their own keys. According to the creator, this is a trivial task. Obviously, by not giving users this information the creator is giving himself some protection against any legal action.
