Useful Software

According to this story on DailyTech the latest release of the Firefox browser, Firefox 2.0, has reached a new record amount of downloads in the browsers history.

I am glad to see the alternative browser is still making gains upon Internet Explorer's dominance of the market. Hopefully, if Firefox and other alternatives, such as Opera, keep on making gains then the internet should be a safer place for all.

Here are the figures, from Mozilla:

Firefox 1.0: 1 million downloads in the first 24 hours.

Firefox 1.5: 1.5 million downloads in the first 24 hours.

Firefox 2.0: 2 million (actually slightly more) people using Firefox 2 in the first 24 hours.

It seems the release of Internet Explorer 7 has done little to slow Firefox's growth, as the difference between the browsers has been getting smaller with Explorer catching up on Firefox's more advanced features.
