A leading story on DailyTech reports that a Sony Exec Says [the] Wii and XBOX 360 are priced too high. It is nice too see Sony having a go at their opposition, but they always seem to mess up -- heck at most things these days. Sony executives do seem to have a history of ridiculous comments; just recently European VP Jamie McDonald stated that European gamers "don't mind" delays with regards to the PlayStation 3. One only needs to read the DailyTech comments to see how absurd this comment was...
I guess European gamers might not mind a three to four month delay on the PlayStation 3; that is, if the delay means the majority of gamers end up buying the XBoX and Wii and decide not to buy the overly expensive PlayStation at all.
People did not mind to wait for the PlayStation 2 when the Dreamcast was out, and even though the Dreamcast broke sales figures upon release it was never competition for the Sony machine once it was released. Obviously, Sony are banking on this happening again; even though there playing off two opposing consoles this time.
Unless more triple A quality games, or exclusive licenses, appear on the XBoX 360, then I can see it going the same way as the Dreamcast. Like the Dreamcast it is not mainstream yet, and by that I mean mentioned by the mainstream public and media like you currently hear the word PlayStation. You know what I mean yet? Like how children are always in their room with their Playstations. Nobody says XBoxes...
I do hope Sony resent this choice and loses the European market, as I hate monopolies and would love to see more competition in the console market.
