TDK Announce Solid State Hard Drive

Other Hardware

TDK have developed the smallest solid state NAND flash memory drive. This solid state hard drive is just smaller than your average 2.5 inch laptop hard drive. In addition a solid state hard drive uses considerably less electricity and is less prone to errors than a conventional hard drive.

TDK state the drive uses high-speed NAND flash memory and can store up to 32GB of data using sixteen 2GB flash chips. When one considers the average flash usb stick costs around £40/$60 this drive might be rather expensive at release; although, one must consider the speed at which NAND memory has dropped in price.

A 32GB Solid State Drive would be very useful for the PC enthusiast market, so TDK should look at makeing these products for the desktop market in the near future. Solid State Drives seem to be all the hype right now with Samsung recently developing 32GB memory using NCTF and Hybrid Hard Drives making a stir and with Vista posed to take advantage of the technology the future looks bright for NAND flash.
